Psychologist

My name is Alize Perez. I am an undergraduate student at University of California Riverside. I'm currently studying psychology to pursue my passion in medicine. As a second year student I have been able to do community service such as volunteering at churches, food drives, and toy drives. Which have all taught me how to interact with people on a personal and professional level. It has taught me patience and how to approach people without breaking any boundaries. As I am moving more and closer towards my long term goals I am now searching for volunteer opportunities that align more closely with my path. I am eager to be able to shadow and be mentored by people who work in my future profession. Whether it involves assisting with patient intake, administrative tasks or helping with community out research programs I am open to any role that allows me to learn and expand my knowledge in health care.e

I have chosen to pursue psychology because I have always been fascinated in what causes people to react and how they react in certain situations. It intrigues me seeing how everything affects the mind and how it adapts around it. I also love being able to help people when they are struggling.I enjoy learning about the chemical reaction within the mind and how if one fluid is low it can have a big impact on a person. Many people think that psychology is a hard topic because of the advantages that come with knowing the human mind but in reality it is very insightful. They are a good toll when you are using it to help people.

I aspire to eventually become a Doctor in psychiatry because a lot of people do not believe in mental health. Especially in my community that classifies as a minority mental health is often ignored because it is looked down as weak. These minority communities need a better view on mental health since a lot of problems are passed down from multiple generations. All it takes is for one person to advocate for the minority for them to start receiving help. I also believe that in order to slowly fix the wrong doing of past researchers and gain the community's trust has to be from someone that looks like them. It is a good tool when you use it to help people out especially when it comes to troubles kids or teenagers. I know having a mentor that you can open up to and feel that trust is sometimes all a person needs to direct them down a good path. With a small act can come a big movement because I care about people and want to find ways to help them is the reason why I am pursuing this major in psychology.
